This project was born in 1987 during Stephen Wilson's experiments (Steven Wilson) in the house studio with psihodelic-progressive music. Creation Porcupine Tree had playful character. For the sake of an entertainment Stephen with the companion have thought up history of nonexistent group, have made its discography and have given names to members of team. For giving of credibility Wilson has composed corresponding music and, for some time has forgotten about it. However in the beginning of 1989 Stephen has returned to idea Porcupine Tree and has written down under this mark cartridge Tarquin's Seaweed Farm. One copy of a film has got to Richard Allen and Ajvoru Truman which have suggested to include one track on the collection of undegraund-psychodelic groups.
However realization of this invention was stretched on one and a half year, and Wilson undertook to extend itself Tarquin’s Seaweed Farm and the second demo — The Nostalgia Factory, having made for them booklets and having put history Porcupine Tree. Records have drawn attention of representatives of just based label Delerium, and this firm undertook their further distribution, in passing having included one track in compilation A Psychedelic Sauna.

Delerium and Wilson have concluded the official contract, and in 1991 there was a first album under mark Porcupine Tree. This disk was based on a material entering in Tarquin’s Seaweed Farm and The Nostalgia Factory. The first circulation of a plate making only 1000 copies, has dispersed almost instantly, and it was necessary to print out of an album. If on On the Sunday of Life Wilson looked back at creativity psychodelic 60 – 70th years by preparation of a following material he has decided to modernize a sound, having added to acid to 60th viscous guitar solo and elements of an ambient-trance in the spirit of The Orb.
